  • Mentor of the Year
    For several years in the late '80s and early '90s I participated in a Mentor-Job Seeker program sponsored by the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee. This program matched hard-core unemployed job seekers with employed mentors. The intent was for the job seeker to benefit from the knowledge and network connections of the mentor. In 1989, I was chosen as Mentor of the Year out of 90 mentors. View award

  • Visions Graduate Network
    From 1993 to 2001, I led the Visions Graduate Network, a support group for unemployed and underemployed white-collar professionals. The group ultimately grew to over 140 members. In my role as Steering Committee Chair, I created and maintained a member database, created meeting announcement flyers, handled mailings, facilitated dinner meetings, and acted as treasurer. In recognition of my efforts, I received a plaque from the group. View plaque

  • Lights of the Lakes
    Lights of the Lakes is an hour-long multimedia slide show featuring my lighthouse photography. It includes portraits of 50 different Great Lakes lighthouses. After accumulating the photos over a 20-year period, I wrote an 8,000 word script, designed the program, and first presented it in 1989. For 16 years thereafter, I presented Lights of the Lakes over 60 times to over 3,000 people. Audiences included boat and yacht clubs, museums, and historical societies throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, including special shows at Rock Island State Park in Door County and Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior.   • U.S. Air Force Education with Industry Program
    While serving as a training and development manager with ARA Services, Inc. (now ARAMARK) I oversaw this program for three years. Each year the U.S. Air Force would place a career officer with our firm for a year of exposure to the management practices of a civilian corporation. View certificates
