My first personal web site was launched in 1995, and I've been engaged in commercial web site development since 1996. The sections below provide a overview of current and past sites I have worked on.

Current Web Sites

  • Phil Block's Personal Web Site
That's this site! It replaces my previous site, which has been online through several generations of updates for over a decade.

  • BlockPhotos.com
An online gallery of my original photography. All photos are fixed-size and display only in low resolution. The galleries use a pbase template.

  • Lightstations.com
Originally a database-driven, standalone Active Server Pages site, the content from Lightstations.com was converted to simple HTML pages and is now part of BlockPhotos.com.

  • BlockPhotos.Smugmug.com
This is a high resolution online photo gallery site showcasing the best of my original photography. While I did not design this site and to date have done no modifications to the basic SmugMug layout, all of the imagery is mine.

  • Health Information Technology Knowledge Base (HITKB)NEW!
During my recent certification training in Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation, I created a large reference website containing all of the lectures, learning modules, and related material I encountered in my federally-developed EHR and healthcare Quality Improvement courses. The result was my HITKB, which now contains hundreds of pages.

  • RiveredgePhotographers.com
A small site built for my camera club. The Members page has links to the photo web sites of some of our members.

  • Hansen ConstructionNEW!
Hansen Construction is a full-service contractor serving Southeast Wisconsin. The company specializes in home remodeling, room additions, roofing, decks, garages, and general construction.

  • D&S CleaningNEW!
D&S Cleaning Service is a family-owned company serving Ozaukee County, WI and surrounding communities. They provide expert cleaning services to a variety of local commercial, professional, and light industrial clients.

  • THRIVE
THRIVE is a consulting service that addresses issues related to the financial support of Non-Profits. By providing a coaching service to the CEO, THRIVE helps to nurture relationships with major donors, with the objective being to raise more money for the non-profit.

  • Urban Day School
Urban Day School is a nonsectarian, community-supported school in Milwaukee. As a thriving "learning community," UDS offers a full range educational programs for K4/K5 through 8th grade students. This site is still under construction.

  • Flyingcolorsglass.com
Originally designed by a college student, I undertook a significant graphics repair job and partial redesign of this site a few years ago. The site is owned by Gary Elshoff of Grafton, WI. It showcases the custom stained-glass artwork he creates for aircraft owners and enthusiasts. My biggest contribution to this site was a new Gallery design. I also photographed many of Gary's window designs (see images).

  • RayLast.com
A musician friend of mine heard that I do web sites, and asked me to make a site to promote his CDs. I created a simple site to give him an online presence. The graphics on this site are commercially produced, except for photo scans I did to create the pictures on the Biography and Book pages. I created all the MP3 audio clips which are available at the site, and also did the photography used to create the front and back covers of the Sing Along Songs CD.

  • WACKER NEUSON Product Guide – Machines
This page design has been online just as I designed it in 2000 because it works. The use of a simple flyout menu java applet saved hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars of development cost by eliminating intermediate "landing page" levels in the product catalog. To view the page: 1) Click link above. 2) On login page, select country and langage (US-English) and the home page displays. 3) Select 'Machines' on left side. Click on any product thumbnail to see it work!

  • Harken Yacht Equipment Online Catalog
This e-Commerce site design has also stood the test of time. I created prototype page layouts in the late 1990s and they are still in use. Product imagery and photos were provided by the client. This site uses the same java applet as the WACKER site. (Click MENU and then STORE to see it in action).

  • Visions Graduate Network
This old site was built for a support group I once chaired for unemployed and underemployed white-collar workers.

Retired Sites

The following sites are no longer online, or responsibility for them has been assumed by others. If still online, successor sites designed by others have replaced the sites that I created.

  • BASF Automotive Coatings – ENSPHERE Virtual Information System
A secure extranet with multiple virtual servers – site had over 1,400 pages, but only the home page was viewable by the public.

  • The Great Circus Parade
This was the official site for a historic street parade that was staged annually in Milwaukee for almost 20 years. The parade featured a cast of over 1500, 700 animals, and dozens of ornate 19th-century circus wagons. Unfortunately, changing times and funding challenges led to the cancellation of the parade after the 2003 event.

  • Wisconsin's Circus World Museum
CWM is located in Baraboo, Wisconsin, at the site of the Ringling Brothers original winter quarters. Now a state historic site, CWM is a popular tourist attraction. This site was designed and once supported by Compuware, but has been redesigned since CWM assumed responsibility for it.
